Yayasan Holi'ana'a has been involved in efforts to empower women on Nias Island since 2006. One of our most successful projects has been upskilling businesswomen and, through our microlending scheme, providing them with the capital to expand their enterprises.
The foundation employs professional trainers, who teach the women advanced practical skills in their chosen businesses (eg sewing, hair-styling/beauty, grocery trading, cooking, agriculture), as well as modules on finance, accounting, online trade, publicity, legal and gender rights, leadership, health and nutrition. Participants in regularly report gaining reliable new revenue streams and increased economic independence and confidence from the training.
