Indonesia is one of the most natural disaster prone places on earth. It experiences earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, floods and tsunamis with frightening regularity. That's why disaster preparedness is a necessity for Indonesia, for the people of Pulau Nias and for Yayasan Holi'ana'a. In addition to carrying out special activities related to Disaster Risk Reduction, YH also makes disaster issues an integrated part of each program.
One of the activities carried out, for example, was the formation of a disaster alert network named LEARN (Local Emergency Assessment and Response-Network). Through this network, YH carried out capacity building activities on disaster preparedness so that member institutions were able to build broader disaster preparedness frameworks in their respective areas. LEARN later became a Foundation and currently manages the network independently.
